Discrimination in the Asian culture

Discrimination in the Asian culture

As a child, I was bullied. I was quiet, unsure of how to stand up for myself and struggled to set boundaries. Because of that, I was frequently left out and made to feel like I didn’t belong. Even now, I’m still not sure if this was the only reason why I was singled out. Was it because of how I acted, or maybe because of my mixed cultural background? Coming from an Indonesian background, where not both of my parents are white and talking about your feelings isn’t common, I’ve often wondered if that played a role in how others saw me.

As the years passed, I slowly found my voice and learned to embrace who I am. I’ve grown in confidence, and I’ve had the privilege of pursuing many opportunities I once thought were beyond my reach. But I know that for many others, the struggle continues.

In my community, especially within Asian cultures, discrimination and bias are still very present, yet often go unspoken. These issues sit quietly in the background, rarely addressed. But staying silent doesn’t lead to change.

That’s why we created CHAINGE—to bring these stories to the surface, to give a voice to the experiences that often go unheard. Every story has the power to spark change, and through our platform, we aim to raise awareness of the social challenges that many still face today.

Together, we can break the silence and create a world where every voice is valued.
